The practice of reading the Psalms

If you are interested in the practice of reading the 150 Psalms in the morning and the evening over a 30 day time period, email us at Zionlutheran2@att.net and we will send you the list for the whole month. You might consider chanting the Psalms. Cynthia Bourgeault has some good information and direction to do that from her CD series: Singing the Psalms from www.soundstrue.com

The practice of Praying

the Lutheran Rosary

Lutherans form the Christian person through worship, catechesis, and individual prayer. Praying the Lutheran rosary which is based upon the six chief parts of the Catechism gives us an opportunity to combine catechesis and individual prayer. For more details on the actual form check out the ELCA website: http://archive.elca.org/communication/rosary.html or download a prayer booklet or see the actual rosary by going to: http://www.whitestreetbeadcompany.com and click on Lutheran Prayer Beads.

We see people living in a relationship with God in Jesus

as both saints and sinners at the same time

throughout their walk as disciples.

Lutherans deepen their relationship with God

with Spiritual Practices

The practice of Spiritual Direction

Our Pastor Larry is a certified Spiritual Director from Shalem Institute For Spiritual Formation as well as being certified in Group Spiritual Formation. A Spiritual Director is one who walks with you as you make your spiritual journey through life assisting you to ask the question: "Where is God in this?" It is a normal practice to meet with your Spiritual Director once a month for approximately an hour.

Do you need to reflect on your relationship with God or learn new faith practices?

Home
We worship and praise God for what God has done for us in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

We at Zion Lutheran Church use the church year to help form us spiritually as disciples of Jesus.

We use the church year because each season gives us a different perspective of how God established a relationship with us and calls us to discipleship in Jesus.

Currently we are celebrating the Pentecost Season which is part of the Cycle of Life where the main focus is on sharing our story of faith as we make our journey through life with God in Jesus.

Spirituality Nights

The practice of Healing

We offer a number of experiences of Laying on of Hands and Anointing of Oil for Healing. A public Service of Healing is offered during the Easter season and on or near the day of remembering St. Luke in October. We also offer the laying on of hands and  anointing of oil for healing following worship on the second Sunday of each month. Upon entering the hospital or when requested laying on of hands and anointing with oil is offered by our Pastor Larry.

The practice of Praying the Hours

It is becoming popular as people desire a deeper spiritual life pray more often than in the morning or in the evening before bed. Here is where we are rediscovering the practice  of praying the hours. To pray the hours means to set certain times of the day aside for prayer. One of the modern day collection for praying the hours comes from Phyllis Tickle in her four volume set called "The Divine Hours." In Prayers for Springtime, Prayers for Summertime, Prayers for Autumn and Winter prayers are given for The Morning Office, The Midday Office, The Vespers Office, and Compline. In her edition called "The Night Offices" she offers prayers from sunset to sunrise.

The practice of Spiritual Reading

The present recommendation for Spiritual Reading by Pastor Larry is Kelly A. Fryer's "Reclaiming the "E" Word: Waking Up to Our Evangelical Identity." This is a great practice to broaden your understanding of God, your faith, and yourself and is part of the ancient spiritual path of knowledge.
